Social Media Impact on Culture

Image
Social Media is one of the largest impacts on teen culture. The image of what influencers look like and what products they are using influences people, especially younger generations, on what they should use. "Sephora Kids" are just one example of how social media is changing the culture. Middle school and even elementary school kids are being exposed to social media apps more and are becoming more influenced to try new products. Products that are meant to be used by an older generation are being used on younger kids and can cause harmful effects on them. Sports in Michigan

Image
Michigan has a lot of sports teams that are located all over the state. However, this year has been looking differently for our professional sports. The Detroit Tigers have been doing exceptionally well this past season. Having a major turn around in their season, they are making a playoff run for the first time in many, many years. Detroit could have 3 of their professional teams all playing at once with the Lions, Tigers, and Pistons going into their seasons. This could be a big year for Detroit sports and could change the culture around the city.

Women in Sports

Growing up playing sports my whole life, I knew I wasn't going to be able to walk away after my last game during my senior year. I knew that I wanted to have a career in sports if I could not play them so I decided that I would major in Sports Management. Being a female though, my classes are predominantly male students. I have to work 10x harder to be able to get a successful career and make it none in the sports industry that this is something that I want to do and something I will do. This is a common occurrence in today's society when it comes to women in sports. Female athletes are still being payed less than men are and women are being given the fun media/marketing careers while men are handling contracts and finances. Just because we are women does not mean that we can not perform at the same level.

Being away from home

Being a sophomore here at CMU, it still has been hard being away from home. I think that going home for a few months over the summer and adjusting to seeing my family and friends every day and not my friends from school is what has made it harder. Also going home a week after being at school never gave me the chance to get adjusted to being back. The stress and excitement of being back at school and getting back adjusted to schoolwork is what makes everything stressful. Having summer off and being able to hang out with my friends and being able to work at my job and then going back into school work was a big change that I was not ready for.
